Create a sensational and flavorful salad in the first “Olive Lovers Salad Challenge” from Lindsay Olives, a new recipe competition at 16 state and county fairs from California to Florida.
Enter an inventive “salad” that tastes great, looks good and is easy to make. Any type or style works. Simply feature two or more varieties of Lindsay Olives. Innovative themes are welcome: from light summer creations to fall comfort foods, and from sides to main dish salads. Your entry can be a vegetarian’s dream or include meat, poultry or fish. Creativity encouraged!
Olives can jazz up salads in as many ways as there are types of olives. From the plump, meaty California black ripe olive with its mild nut-like flavor, to punchy garlic-stuffed queens, the options are endless. Try the balanced flavor of the pimiento-stuffed Spanish olive or the buttery texture of the California green ripe olive. Olives quickly add flavor, color and texture--perfect in any salad.
Judges will focus on: creative ingredient combinations (30%), tantalizing taste (30%), ease of preparation (25%), and visual appeal (15%) for their criteria.
Awards await the best dishes! First and second place entries win a $100 and $50 respectively. The top three winners at each Fair take home a gift basket from Lindsay Olives, valued at $100 plus a prize ribbon, Lindsay Olive apron and award certificate.
As a sample recipe, check out this Fresh from the Garden Olive Toss. You can also visit www.lindsayolives.com to get those creative juices going.
People of all ages are welcome to prepare an entry and deliver it to the fair for judging. Each person can enter once per fair.
