Every Olive Has a Story

Lindsay Olives - Every Olive Has a Story

What do Amphissa, Barouni, and Cerignola have in common?

OK, so because you’re reading this on our blog, you can probably guess that these are different varieties of olives. These might sound obscure to many, but believe it or not, they’re actually among the most common varieties.

Maybe it’s because there are actually thousands of active olive varieties grown all over the world. Or maybe it’s due to the fact that the cultivation of olive trees began more than 7,000 years ago. But perhaps more than any other fruit, the olive has a history that’s steeped in tradition and lore. Olives, as well as the olive tree, are noted in many classic works of literature such as Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, and are even mentioned throughout the Bible. Being closely tied to such stories, its no wonder olive lovers take their favorite fruit so seriously!

Here at Lindsay, we believe every olive has a story: a unique flavor, distinct texture, and of course, a perfect match for a particular recipe. If you tend to use the same olive type in all your recipes, it’s time to explore some of the amazing, tradition-rich tastes, styles, and varieties that make this fabled fruit so popular.
